MADE WITH HOMBYS
Oceans & Purls by @hanknit.byhannah
Inspired by the calming colors of the sea, Hannah, @hanknit.byhannah, created Oceans & Purls: a hand-knit chunky blanket in rich navy, country blue, sky blue, and cream. It is her first custom blanket design and her first collaboration with HOMBYS Yarn.
Broad blue bands meet narrow cream accents, while raised purl rows add a beautifully tactile rhythm. From deep ocean tones to soft, airy blues, the four-color palette gives this plush blanket its peaceful coastal character.
A Handmade Birthday Gift
Hannah shared that the blanket was headed to a family friend as a birthday gift. Her post celebrates the pleasure of creating meaningful keepsakes—handmade pieces that bring warmth, comfort, and care to someone’s everyday life.
She thanked HOMBYS for making the collaboration possible and expressed her excitement about creating more designs with the yarn. We love how she paired a thoughtful gift with her own original stitch and color arrangement.

YARN PLANNING · REFERENCE ESTIMATE
How much yarn should I prepare?
Reference size: 45 × 57 in (114 × 145 cm). Scope: one finished item.
Whole-skein color budget: approximately 9–13 skeins in total, including one spare in the largest yarn group. Whole-skein rounding by color can exceed the estimated amount actually knitted.
Estimated fabric consumption before the spare: about 5.9–8.8 skein-equivalents across all colors. Small accents may use only part of a skein.
| Yarn / color group | Whole-skein planning budget |
|---|---|
| Navy Blue | 3–4 whole skeins At 8 skeins / pack: 1 pack(s). Full packs may leave yarn over. |
| Country Blue | 2–3 whole skeins At 8 skeins / pack: 1 pack(s). Full packs may leave yarn over. |
| Sky blue | 2–3 whole skeins At 8 skeins / pack: 1 pack(s). Full packs may leave yarn over. |
| Cream | 2–3 whole skeins At 8 skeins / pack: 1 pack(s). Full packs may leave yarn over. |
Planning assumptions: single-layer blanket; maker-reported dimensions, estimated yarn use. Area model uses 350 square inches per 27 yd skein as a working assumption, scaled to the listed skein length; ±20% allowance, plus one spare after rounding each color. Decorative / texture factor: 1. This is not a tested yield or the maker’s confirmed usage.
Color split: Navy Blue 25%, Country Blue 25%, Sky blue 25%, Cream 25%. These are illustrative planning shares, not measured original proportions. Mixed / gradient product rows are combined yarn groups; their full pack size is not a claim of project consumption. Check pack contents and top up individual colors as needed.
Before buying: swatch in the intended stitch, measure the finished swatch and yarn used, then scale to your chosen size. The reference size above is an assumption unless marked maker-reported. These figures do not establish the original finished size or actual yarn used.
