MADE WITH HOMBYS

Evil Eye Pillow Pair by @chunkyknitsbymads_

Two bold color stories bring the same round Evil Eye pillow design to life. @chunkyknitsbymads_ pairs a pink-and-red version with a turquoise-and-blue companion, both built around a dark center and pale contrast ring.

The concentric bands make color placement the focus: black center, bright inner ring, pale outer ring, and a strong colored edge. Thick chenille stitches soften the graphic shapes and give the pair their handmade character.

The Maker’s Story

Mads shared these pillows as a pattern tester and said she used HOMBYS chunky yarn. She credited @saltydogstudio.fl for the Evil Eye design and noted that she also makes custom-color finished pillows.

Coordinating Yarn Options

For the pink version, consider Black, Rose Red, Pure White, and Red. For the blue version, consider Black, Lake Blue, Pure White, and Navy Blue. The original blue edge appears brighter than the current Navy Blue product photo; Navy Blue is a darker alternative, not an exact cobalt match. No checked mixed pack contains the exact ring colors, so they are listed individually. All store shade names remain visual suggestions.

Planning Your Yarn Amount

The two pillows use different colored rings, so plan them separately using the designer’s stitch counts and finished diameter. No original yarn usage or insert size is given. Shared black and pale yarn can be budgeted together, but a linked pack does not mean a whole pack is needed for a single ring.

YARN PLANNING · REFERENCE ESTIMATE

How much yarn should I prepare?

Reference size: two 16 in (41 cm) diameter pillows. Scope: both pillow covers; stuffing excluded.

Whole-skein color budget: approximately 7 skeins in total, including one spare in the largest yarn group. Whole-skein rounding by color can exceed the estimated amount actually knitted.

Estimated fabric consumption before the spare: about 2.0–3.0 skein-equivalents across all colors. Small accents may use only part of a skein.

Yarn / color group Whole-skein planning budget
black 1 whole skeins
At 8 skeins / pack: 1 pack(s). Full packs may leave yarn over.
Pure White 2 whole skeins
At 8 skeins / pack: 1 pack(s). Full packs may leave yarn over.
Rose Red 1 whole skeins
At 8 skeins / pack: 1 pack(s). Full packs may leave yarn over.
red 1 whole skeins
At 8 skeins / pack: 1 pack(s). Full packs may leave yarn over.
Lake Blue 1 whole skeins
At 8 skeins / pack: 1 pack(s). Full packs may leave yarn over.
Navy Blue 1 whole skeins
At 8 skeins / pack: 1 pack(s). Full packs may leave yarn over.

Planning assumptions: two front-and-back round pillow covers, 10% finishing allowance. Area model uses 350 square inches per 27 yd skein as a working assumption, scaled to the listed skein length; ±20% allowance, plus one spare after rounding each color. Decorative / texture factor: 1.1. This is not a tested yield or the maker’s confirmed usage.

Color split: black 15%, Pure White 20%, Rose Red 18%, red 18%, Lake Blue 15%, Navy Blue 15%. These are illustrative planning shares, not measured original proportions. Mixed / gradient product rows are combined yarn groups; their full pack size is not a claim of project consumption. Check pack contents and top up individual colors as needed.

Before buying: swatch in the intended stitch, measure the finished swatch and yarn used, then scale to your chosen size. The reference size above is an assumption unless marked maker-reported. These figures do not establish the original finished size or actual yarn used.
